The Sonnet of Whistles and Trills

I miss you
though the poet’s obsession with birdsong persists
after all needs are met and each moments eternal,
forest animal noises nocturnal rejoice
in duplicitous infinite variations on bliss
a stolen and sparkling tinily smiling quick kiss.

Slide trombone and oboe song occur below,
light curls luxuriate in thighs and smiles
divide your quick anticipation
of one almost destination,
a long slow song of tides disguised
on skin so shy it rises at the merest sigh,

like this, the least unsubtle synonym
for I remember once the simplest kiss,
now missed.

Rites and Obligations.

wrote a poem, rota, huth
by rote nor arcane rite
‘how many metaphors must you mix’
he says sliding it into the coozie
and placing it gently on the bridge
at the lip of the grand piano.

there never was a musician
who didn’t flirt with arrogance a
claim, staked and
succeeded, succession,
one must have an exit plan
said F.

as soon as you enter the room
there will be an instinct
mistaken for perfume
Prague perhaps
a rain driven hustle
under streetlights and the
clatter of tanks.

Remember Greece retracing
Byron’s club foot Frankenstein
clumping up the hill under
the obvious influence of
various esoteric drugs,

realising Crowley was quoting
Rabelais and the joy of the sun
risen over the Aegean,

each moment a
gift you gave

had given

all i ever had

subtitle – oh no, Friday Night live,
subdrop – The Frank Zappa Riff
Dear Alessander and The Angel Headed Hipster
thankyou, i have not changed my ideas one iota
but i have become better in the implementation
of certain instruments, nudge nudge,
as a result of drunkenly stumbling
out of Argentinian steakhouse tango
parlours at dawn laughing and
toasting some sungod for his obvious
glaring and quite cliched blinding.

hypothesise my darling amber eyes up on
the pavement that ideas never die, it is the having
of them that’s important and watching as they fly,

i can’t control some outcome which occurs on
an event horizon all i ever wanted was for her
to hear me cry,
oh my what an act of perfect
transportative plumptiousness,
and watch her walk away like some ocean
perfect uncontained,
as Bob Marley sings
redemption song,

Stooped

stooped but not stupid, sir,
there seems to be some problem with
bumping into each other below decks
in narrow hallways during stormy weather

A tall thin elegant gentleman with a cane
and the vague scent of vanilla and I
my love, in pursuit of your objective,

and now it has come into my
possession
engraved upon my coarse skin
a mapped device for unlocking some
strange sin within.

Everything is under control,
sir,

Good he says turning back into the room,
now where is she,

red tulips in a vase
I dreamed we were holding hands
listening to a brass band in the park
I dreamed the scent of tulips in a vase
(sight is not vision)
and your laugh

Woke with a taste most particular and a
delicate tremor in the heart.
I dreamed the most discrete caress
pleats in a long forgot yellow dress
and your laugh,

red tulips around a pagoda
a latticework utmost ornate
containing a brass band in the park
red tulips in a vase
(making love in the dark)
and your laugh.

By a rushing stream a soldier knelt.

Cannot begin to imagine the end of
delight in you and the strangeness of touch
tasting enough or divining some final
truth of you or beginning to wish your eyes
your lips, your lips your eyes, desire
in movement away my dear appearing nearer
to thee when my mind declines my
blood descends a kiss not this nor here but
where there is no end of you some
river runs some planet dips a swoop of fish
a clasp of song a longing belonging
to you becoming yours by some squeezing
force an opening call unheard before
imagine no end to beginning again waking
you with a kiss just this not here nor
there but whisper this in your ear my dear
i love you,
