they are so slow and unco
so mono-focused on just one hunger
limbs dangling half useless
half de haha doin’ the
zombie shuffle

i have lived, at least
and believed in love
honoured and treasured
i have danced naked raised
in moonlight and bayed
for blood and been bathed
in love

there were zombies
were-zombies fit for little
more than laughing at
and playing with
and slowly rotating
into fertilizer
from which grew
new dreams

  1. I know them Paul. And you are right.

  2. r were-zombies like werewolves? gives me goosebumps that is a spookly rich poem

  3. JESUS Paul, you’ve made zombies beautiful to me. I ADORE this poem.

  4. I love this. Great rhythm and sort of a tribal feel to it. I’ve read it out loud and it’s very cool. Thanks.

  5. chuckle

  6. awesome

  7. Oooh, I just love this — fabulous rhythm, love the metaphor of fertilizer for dreams, and yes, living and believing in love, that’s what it’s all about (sure not the hokey pokey, lol). 🙂

  8. Fantastic poem – great description of ze zombie with the ‘limbs dangling half useless’ – takes me back to my youth at the drive-in watching dusk to dawn bad horror movies with zombies as the stars. I wonder is ‘unco’ an Australianism – love that word – good to use on brothers ‘you bloody unco’.

  9. Excelent poem, excepet for the fact that I am not a big fan of zombies, do not ask me why, I am just not, nevertheless I love the movie “last man on earth”. Maybe I do not like them because I am really afreaid of becoming one, for me that is the worst that could happen to me being alive. By the way Geof does incredible art.

    Take care dear paul.

  10. Ha… you spoke to me in a language I understand. I LOVE this! The imagery is amazing and the cadence mesmerizing. Never mind that I’m strange and have a fascination for all things dead and decaying… which your poem is not. 🙂

  11. this is brilliant, I’ll have to show it to my partner who’s into zombies…

  12. strange and beautiful and dancing in three ways

  13. But then one persons fertilizer is another persons zombie no? And I know them too, beautiful!
