round campfires while young girls giggle
behind their hands and exchange grins.

(remember that? was it so long ago
you’ve forgotten campfires and bass drums
shifting flames
whilst parents conspired perfect matches knowing
that time was short til some shy draggeldy young thing
would distract with a sudden flick of the hip
and disappear into the darkness with a skip
and a quick smile, followed or following,
